Clean, powdery, soapy. One can think cold, but there is something underneath that evoques some kind of warmness, specially when it dries down after one hour. I started using Rive Gauche in the 1970s as a teenager in my first job and Ma Griffe in the 1980s, a little older and perhaps a little more mature. I was in college and it cost me a pretty penny. Nowadays I would say it's a classic floral aldehyde with a lot of jasmine fresh and very feminine almost too sexy . As an addendum to my review, what sticks in my mind is what one reviewer tears ago called the wonderful "rubbery rose" quality this, the original has. In my opinion Rive Gauche is cooler, breezier, a little more aloof and Ma Griffe has a warmth that Rive Gauche doesn't, but even reformulated, the original character and impact is still there.
